  • 1671 - The first Postmaster was appointed in 1671
  • 1746 - Earliest recorded Jamaica handstamp
  • 1754 - Edward Dismore took over as Postmaster and organised the inland post
  • 1858, May - GB adhesives used until July 1860 (Previously rate marked in manuscript)
  • 1860 - Post Office control passed from the GB PO to the Colonial Government
  • 1860, November - Jamaica's own adhesives issued
  • 1962, 8 August - The country became independent
  • 1969, 8 September - Currency changed from sterling to Jamaica dollar
